YEARS ago, Patrick O’Brien couldn’t see a career beyond being an architect, but a chance meeting with industry leaders many years ago paved the way to the hotshot joining the Ray White Commercial NSW team as senior sales executive. “I began my real estate career when I was studying architecture at a university in Newcastle, a chance meeting for an admin role led to a referral and within 6-12 months I was managing, negotiating and exchanging a number of campaigns,” Mr O’Brien said. “At the end of my second year, I had personally listed and transacted $45-$50M worth of assets, by then I knew I’d found my dream career.
“I have many career highlights but a stand-out is in my second year, I managed and personally exchanged an apartment sale that broke two Australian records, simultaneously. I coordinated, managed and exchanged the sale of 7/62 Wunulla Road, Point Piper, for $10.1M while my principal was on holidays in Europe.”
Mr O’Brien said he had always been extremely impressed with the business and culture at Ray White, but it was Commercial NSW managing director and partner Jeff Moxham who really attracted him to Australia’s largest real estate group. “When I made the decision to transition from residential to commercial I did extensive research on the market leaders within the sphere,” he said.
“From research, personal industry referrals and track record; Jeff Moxham was consistently referred to as one of the most successful, consistent and respected figures. Meeting with Jeff a number of times reconfirmed the reputation of not only himself but importantly Ray White, and why they have so many high performers across the industry. Having had five and a half years of experience and being involved in/responsible for over $110M worth of transactions across 40 plus campaigns per year has honed my work ethic, discipline, organisation, detail focus and processes to ensure the best service possible. I’m lucky to have great examples of career progression within Ray White just metres away from me in the office. I’m excited by the prospect of growing at Ray White, I have ambitions of managing and negotiating campaigns early and building my way up to be an established market leader.”
Away from the real estate scene, the Irishman from Dublin enjoyed the lighter things in life, including a musical streak. “I’m a real foodie and enjoy trying cuisines from every culture, but what not a lot of people know is, I’ve been classical guitar training for 15 years,” he said. “I’m a big art and music fan and I’ve been fortunate enough to travel across the world, from Korea and Europe to Chile and Canada.”
Ray White Commercial NSW managing director and partner Jeff Moxham said he was delighted to welcome Mr O’Brien to the team and the Ray White family. “Patrick actually approached me earlier this year and I was very impressed by his direct approach and his professionalism,” Mr Moxham said. “He’s been a successful residential agent in the eastern suburbs for five years and I welcome the opportunity to bring in residential agents and train them around the commercial product. Successful residential agents are used to working hard, they have to have grit and discipline.” “He will fit in well with our team, he has a welcoming personality, is seriously driven and is already proving that going the extra mile is standard if you want to succeed. Patrick has a big future ahead of him.”
